Research Infrastructures
Europe has an extensive network of marine research infrastructure which incorporates a wide range of facilities including research vessels and embarkable equipment, on-land and offshore research and test facilities in the physical, biological and chemical domain as well as numerous remote and in-situ observation facilities. Consolidation, co-ordination and more streamlined access to such facilities is being promoted at European and regional level. Discover how EurOcean promotes this integration.
Marine Research Infrastructures Database (RID)
The Marine Research Infrastructures database isa comprehensive searchable listing of over 900 facilities in Europe which are dedicated to marine science activities. It lists research vessels, underwater equipment, experimental laboratories and ocean observing systems among others. It provides the key characteristics for each facility, including links and contacts in order to access further details provided by the operators of the facilities. It is complemented by more detailed information in our other infrastructural databases. You can also add details of your own facilities directly to the list.European Research Vessels Infobase (RV)
The European Research Vessels infobase contains comprehensive information on the more than 300 vessels operating in Europe and beyond. It contains their specifications, operator contact details, pictures and in some cases the real time position of the vessel. You can also add to or update records in the database yourself.European Large Exchangeable Instruments Infobase (LEXI)
The European Large Exchangeable Instruments infobase contains comprehensive information on more than 150 pieces of equipment based in 20 European countries. Twenty descriptors are used for each instrument in 27 categories from autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to corers and towed vehicles. You can also add to or update records in the database yourself.European Aquaculture Experimental and Research Facilities Infobase (AF)
The European Aquaculture Experimental and Research Facilities database contains comprehensive information on more than 110 facilities operating in 20 European countries. As well as a physical description of the facility each record contains information on the key research topics, the species investigated at the facility and any specialist equipment that may be based there. You can also add to or update records in the database yourself.
